Religion by its very nature is meant to be inspirational. The sources of that inspiration can come from many sources. Some are obvious, some not so. Here is a somewhat eclectic mix of quotes, from the traditional to the progressive:

This first inspirational religious quote is from the book of Joshua, in the Bible:

"The eternal god is the refuge and the underneath are the everlasting arms."
Book Of Joshua

This next inspirational quote also comes from the Bible and the book of psalms:
"Make a joyful noise unto god, all ye lands."
Psalms

Martin Luther, the founder of the protestant movement in Europe, had many inspirational ideas and thoughts which helped propel the religious movement into the modern era.
"A mighty fullness is our god a bulwark never failing our helper he amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing." Martin Luther

There are also many writers who, over time, have addressed the meaning of god in people’s lives. Dante Alighieri, the italian poet, who wrote the magnificent classic the inferno, dealt often with the meaning of god and the nature of belief and this is one of his best inspirational quotes:

"It’s love that moves the sun and the other stars."
Dane Alighieri

The 16th century persian poet rumi also trafficked in religion and ideals as well and this is one of his more famous inspirational quotes:

"Forget safety. Live where you fear to live."
Rumi

Last but not least in our religious inspirational quotes, there is henry david thoreau, the naturalist, who saw religion in its natural forms and his quote is an excellent quote to end on, one that leaves you with something to think about and something to reflect upon:

"Aim above morality. Be not simply good; be good for something."
Henry David Thoreau
